Abstract: Since the concept of harmonious coexistence between human and nature has become a highly concerned proposition in all walks of life, the topic of how to properly handle the relationship between ecotourism and ecological environment protection in the upper reaches of the Yellow River has also received much attention. This paper takes 17 cities in the upper reaches of the Yellow River as the research object, constructs a model for the coordinated development of human and nature under the influence of ecotourism, and measures and analyzes the harmonious coexistence of human and nature in the upper reaches of the Yellow River from 2008 to 2022. The results indicate that: (1) The comprehensive evaluation index for economic and social development shows a continuous upward trend from 2008 to 2022, while the comprehensive evaluation index for resources and environmental systems generally exhibits positive growth trends but with some twists during this period; (2) Before 2013, efforts towards resource and environmental protection exceeded those towards economic and social development, but after that year they fell behind; (3) The coordinated development of humans and nature in each city can be divided into three periods: 2008-2011 was a period of complete imbalance; 2012-2017 was a period of adjustment and development; while 2018-2022 is considered as a period of primary coordination; (4) The degree of coordinated development between human and nature is increasing, but overall levels are not high, showing a pattern where coordination is higher in southwest regions compared to northern.
