SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INDUSTRY BASED  ON ECO-FOOTPRINT MODEL IN GUILIN CITY

The sustainable development of tourism is an important field to study the tourism. The ecological footprint theory as of innovation in theory and method, and practice, provides a new means to study the sustainable development of tourism. This paper, based on tourists consumption structures, classifies the ecological footprint of urban tourism into six aspects, transportation, food, accommodation, shopping, touring and entertainment, and evaluates the ecological footprint of tourism in Guilin city with the results indicating that, in Guilin in 2005, the tourism ecological footprint per capital is 0.056 5 hm2, the tourism ecological loading capacity per capital is 0.771 9 hm2, with a tourism ecological deficit per capital up to 0.021 68 hm2, implying an unsustainable development in Guilin's tourism industry. This paper presents some suggestions rationally developing the ecological resources to ensure a sustainable development of tourism industry in Guilin city.

Based on the tourism resources and features of Gongcheng this paper gives an introduction to the ecological classification of spatial relation of tourism resources, analyzes the spatial relation of tourism resources between Gongcheng and its vicinity and within Gongcheng, and presents some approaches to the development of tourism: to form a mutual benefit within Gongcheng and a favorable benefit to Gongcheng compared to its vicinity.
