The southern Xialiaohe Plain abounds in brine resources which are commonly hosted in the Quaternary aquifers and excavated by local people to make industrial salt. In recent decades, The Liaoning province, Panjin city governments and Liaohe oilfield carried out geological and hydrological work in this area, and accumulated lots of data regarding regional geology, lithological texture, structures, underground water characteristics and genesis, providing a reference to develop the brine resources in the future.
